Tim Lane has carved out a distinctive place in the Australian music scene, blending heartfelt acoustic ballads with driving rock anthems.
His journey began as a university guitarist in rock cover bands, where
he honed his craft on stage night after night. Today, he channels that
energy into original compositions, performing and recording music
that carries his unmistakable signature sound.
Drawing inspiration from iconic acts like Crowded House and Hunters & Collectors, Tim’s songs are built on carefully crafted melodies and lyrics that resonate with audiences across generations. His music moves seamlessly between intimate acoustic storytelling and full‑bodied rock, reflecting
both his versatility and deep connection to the craft.
In 2010, Tim joined forces with longtime friend Mark Baldock to form the
rock duo The Backstick Agenda — a name coined by Tim’s son, Charlie.
Around the same time, he collaborated with Dave Minchin of The
Giant Hamsters, leading to the production of “A Song for Jim” with
Michael Carpenter at Sydney’s Luv HZ Studios. That project marked the beginning of Tim’s journey into original music, setting the stage for
a growing catalogue of work. Beyond his collaborations, Tim continues
to perform solo shows in Hobart, captivating audiences with his
dynamic range and authentic storytelling. He has recorded ten original
tracks to date, steadily building a body of work that reflects his evolution
as an artist and his enduring passion for music.
